Ask potential suppliers:
Can their system show how decisions were made?
Do they provide audit logs, visualisations, or decision paths?
How do they mitigate bias and test for fairness?
For public-facing bodies or SMEs without in-house AI teams, this is the difference between a useful tool and a governance nightmare.
5. Are They Willing to Pilot, Test, or Adapt?
Responsible AI suppliers should welcome scrutiny and expect to work in collaboration with clients during early stages.
Look for those who offer:
Pilot phases or trial access
Clear testing frameworks
Flexibility to adapt based on feedback
If a supplier can’t support small-scale rollout, explain limitations, or build trust through testing, they may not be the right long-term partner.
6. Are Their Promises Grounded in Reality?
Some AI vendors make bold claims: “Our tool can replace X,” “No expertise required,” “Instant results.”
Ask:
Can they back this up with case studies, test results, or live demos?
Do they acknowledge the limits of what their AI can do?
Will they be honest about what’s experimental and what’s production-ready?
Responsible suppliers don’t oversell. They give you the clarity to decide where and how AI can support your goals, not replace them.

We’re entering an era where AI tools will be embedded in everything from interpretation and education to conservation and customer experience. But not all AI is created equal and not all suppliers are ready for the responsibility that comes with it.
A responsible AI partner is one who’s:
